Could you say a bit about your background in media?
I've been a storyteller my entire life. I grew up in Sweden, in a suburb of Stockholm. I was five years old when I told my mom I wanted to be a journalist. I think I was 10 when I first had a poem published in a magazine: 15 or 16 when I first got paid for my writing. I like to joke and I say I have one skill and one skill only and that’s to be a storyteller!
My superpower is editing. That dates back to elementary school when I was obsessed with reading everything I could get my hands on -- and then looking for misspellings or ways to rewrite and restructure sentences. I loved taking spelling tests because I knew I’d ace them all. I always found it so therapeutic to proofread.
Having grown up in Sweden and raised on American TV, I knew I was destined to live in the States. By the way of London and NYC, I landed in D.C. The 2008 recession was in full swing, but I managed to get a job as a reporter. I first covered government contracting and then the federal government's use of IT. That was the beginning of my nearly 14 years -- and counting -- in the government technology space.
