The Acceleration Deputy Portfolio Director (DPD) reports to the Acceleration Portfolio Director and helps lead the Acceleration team as it pursues NSIN’s mission. The Acceleration Portfolio primarily contributes to the NSIN Mission by accelerating the DOD’s adoption of novel concepts and solutions as well as solving National Security Problems by Collaborating with Partners from the Academic and Venture Communities. Additionally, the Acceleration DPD works closely with NSIN’s other portfolios, Collaboration and National Service, and the eleven (11) Regional Directors to coordinate and synchronize the local, regional, national, and international delivery of NSIN programming.
The Acceleration DPD assists in providing daily oversight of all program development, execution, resource development and planning for any NSIN programs and services that fall within the Acceleration Portfolio mission or are otherwise assigned by the NSIN Managing Director. This includes helping develop an annual strategy to achieve the portfolio’s goals, the portfolio’s corresponding budget, new programs to meet demands from the 11 Regional Directors, and monitoring execution and programmatic outlays within an assigned topline. Finally, the Acceleration DPD is responsible for assisting programmatic and pilot execution of all Acceleration programs and services, as well as supervising Program Managers in the follow-on evaluation of their assigned programs for efficiency and effectiveness. (60%).
The Acceleration DPD serves as a primary NSIN point of contact for all new ventures that make initial contact with NSIN, either seeking discrete NSIN Acceleration Portfolio programs or services or merely orientation and assistance with accessing relevant stakeholders in the US Department of Defense (e.g., DIU). This includes developing systems that manage and monitor venture intake and status of each team/company that enters the Acceleration Portfolio and direct support to the National Service and Collaboration Portfolio Directors for venture-related assistance with their respective programs. (20%)
The Acceleration DPD coordinates all Technology Transfer and Transition (T3) efforts for NSIN by developing and executing programs and services that directly support T3 objectives from the Defense Laboratories. (20%).
Performance will be assessed through an annual performance evaluation with mutually agreed upon objectives, goals and outcomes and evaluated by the appropriate Contractor Project Manager and the Acceleration Portfolio Director.
This position is located at the NSIN Headquarters in Arlington, VA.
To Crush this Role, You’ll Need to Bring:
At least three years of combined program management experience, including resource prioritization and budgeting and developing measures of effectiveness and efficiency.
At least two years of combined experience providing analysis, policy, and technology support in the national security and/or intelligence communities.
Knowledge of current DoD innovation projects, programs and initiatives.
Broad knowledge of emerging national security needs and associated Science and Technology programs.
Broad knowledge of emerging DOD capability needs and the DoD requirements process.
Deep knowledge of the national security start-up, venture or venture capital environment.
Experience working with dual-use technology and Department of Defense customers.
Previous start-up or venture capital experience, with at least two years of cumulative experience in either. A willingness and aptitude to operate successfully as part of a remote, team-based culture.
Strong analytical skills.
Strong interpersonal communications skills, including oral and written skills.
Foresight, maturity, and the ability to negotiate amicable solutions to complex problems.
Possess at least an earned B.A./B.S. degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent). MBA preferred.
Compensation
This position is a federal contractor position with GS-14 level equivalent compensation.
