A little bit about Daveed…

Daveed Gartenstein-Ross is the founder and chief executive officer of Valens Games. He established Valens Games in 2024 with two core goals. The first goal was to pioneer Immersive Exercises—a distinctive style of serious games designed to generate real-world insights in an engaging manner. The second goal was to develop a market-leading game design platform that enables rapid creation of sophisticated games. Valens Games’ Immersive Exercises stand out for their rich media environments, meticulously crafted narrative arcs, and high entertainment value, in addition to their ability to educate and provide strategic insights. These exercises simulate complex and realistic decision-making scenarios by integrating news, social media, video, team memos, and role players. Participant feedback has been overwhelmingly positive: 95% of over 700 participants have rated the exercises a 3 or 4 on a 4-point scale, citing their depth, realism, and relevance. Daveed has led Immersive Exercises for a diverse array of stakeholders, including major tech companies, the U.S. State Department’s Foreign Service Institute, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Department of National Defence, the Global Counterterrorism Forum, and leading universities such as Carnegie Mellon, Duke, Georgetown, and Johns Hopkins. Beyond his work on games, Daveed has a distinguished background in as a national security professional and entrepreneur. He has held positions with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Google, and in 2019, led Valens Global’s contributions to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Strategic Framework for Countering Terrorism and Targeted Violence, a widely praised document that continues to guide the department’s mission. The International Herald Tribune has described him as “a rising star in the counterterrorism community.” Daveed is also the founder of Valens Global, a firm twice recognized on Entrepreneur Magazine’s E360 list of the best entrepreneurial companies in America. He successfully exited from Valens Global in 2024. Daveed holds a Ph.D. in world politics from the Catholic University of America and a J.D. from the New York University School of Law. He is the author or volume editor of over 30 books and monographs, including books published by Penguin, Wiley, and Columbia University Press. His extensive body of work—spanning academia, policy, and immersive storytelling—underscores his commitment to blending strategic insight with innovative game design.
