A Little Bit About Admiral Jeff Lemmons

Rear Admiral Jeff Lemmons graduated from Brownwood High School, Texas in 1975 and attended the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland. Upon graduation in 1979 he entered flight training in Pensacola Florida and was designated a naval aviator in November 1980. After several decades of active and reserve naval service, he was promoted to flag rank in 2004 and assigned duties as the commander, Naval Air Force Reserve at NAS North Island, San Diego. His staff assignments included U.S. Navy Director for Fleet Readiness; assistant deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operation, Plans and Strategy; U.S. Navy Director for International Engagement, and military assistant to the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Readiness. His last assignment was Director of the Inter-American Defense College on Ft. McNair, responsible for preparing military officers, police officials, and ministerial civilians of Western Hemisphere nations for senior national level defense and security leadership responsibilities. He has completed the Naval War College and National Defense University Reserve Component studies curriculum and served as a member of the Secretary of Defense Reserve Force Policy Board. Lemmons is a Harvard University Kennedy School Senior Executive National and International Security Fellow and also a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Seminar XXI Fellow. Rear Admiral Lemmons retired from active service in June of 2014 and began work as a consultant with the Institute for Defense Analysis (IDA) in Washington DC, a federally funded research facility and thinktank. He spends time in the DC metropolitan area but can often be found in Central Texas. where he has ranching and farming interests and serves on the Board of Directors for the Central Texas Veterans’ Memorial Association.
